Replacement of Underground Grey Water Drain System

Project Location: Denver, Colorado
Date Completed: November 2014
Methodology: Hand Tunnel

The purpose of this project was to replace an active grey water drain system under an operating airline food service/catering facility at Denver International Airport while the facility remained in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. UIT installed over 300 LF of 54-inch liner plate using the hand tunnel method and constructed a temporary false tunnel floor to allow the existing line to remain in service while the tunnel was advanced and the new line was installed. Upon completion of the tunnel and replacement line, the existing line was removed and the tunnel was filled with a controlled flowable fill material.
